How Often Should Brakes Be Tested?

DVSA guidance and industry best practice expect regular brake testing as part of your safety inspection regime.

For many heavy vehicles, this effectively means:

  • Brake testing in line with regular safety inspections – often every 6 weeks, depending on vehicle class, mileage and operating conditions
  • A loaded brake test wherever possible (typically to around 65% of the vehicle’s load) for realistic results
  • Additional tests if there’s any concern about braking performance, or after significant brake work
